Emergency Medical Services - Out Of Hours Outside normal working hours, emergency medical services for our patients are provided by BADGER (which is staffed by local GPs and has a base at Solihull Hospital). (BADGER stands for Birmingham and District General Practitioner Emergency Rooms) The Out of Hours service is commissioned by Solihull Care Trust. Always ring one of the Surgery telephone numbers (above) , and a recorded telephone message provides the contact number when the surgery is closed. NHS Direct (Tel 0845 4647) is available 24 hours a day to provide advice and information. You can also visit their website at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk - click here for the NHS Direct website All patients are seen by appointment. The doctors at this practice work as a medical team, so patients are free to see any doctor. We would however encourage patients to see the same doctor consistently where possible. Please check the surgeries that each particular doctor holds - see here>> The practice operates an an advanced access appointment system. In order to accommodate this we would request that where possible patients phone for an appointment on the day. Same-day appointments are always available. Prebookable appointments are also available and can be booked four weeks in advance. If patients are unable to attend their appointment they are requested to inform reception. Patients are requested to arrive for their appointment on time. If a patient arrives late it may not always be possible to be seen and may require that the appointment is re-booked. In addition to this, all of the doctors have a daily slot for telephone appointments (an appointment held over the telephone).Telephone appointments can also be made with the practice nurse. Please ask our reception staff. To request a home visit please contact the surgery before 11.00am if possible. The receptionist may ask you about your illness in order to help the doctor assess the urgency of the call. If you require repeat medication on a regular basis we will usually issue you with a computerised repeat prescription request form. Please request repeat medication either using the counterfoil provided, or a piece of paper, allowing up to 24 hours for this service. We will return prescriptions by post if a pre-paid envelope is supplied. We can accept repeat prescriptions by fax (0121 765 0161). Please expect the doctor to ask you to have medications on repeat prescription reviewed at least once a year in the interest of your health. For safety reasons, we will only accept telephoned requests for medication in exceptional circumstances Please do not leave or call to collect prescriptions before 10:30am. © St Margarets Medical Practice 2007-2009 - all rights reserved.
